Huck at 1% For The Planet European Summit

Patagonia HQ in Amsterdam hosts European members of 1% For The Planet

Huck is a long-time media partner of the environmental charity 1% For The Planet, set up in 2002 by Patagonia's founder Yvon Chouinard and Craig Matthews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies. The charity exists to support environmental and conservation non-profits and organisations in their vital work. Companies and individuals can join the 1% network by donating 1% of their annual sales, salary or net worth to enable this vital support.

1% is committed to further establishing the member network in Europe, enjoying great success in the US to the tune of nearly $200m redirected to support the vital environmental work going on globally. The fact that only 3% of philanthropy is given to environmental causes is one that needs to change drastically.

The event saw attendees from members across 18 countries and inspiring talks from Patagonia Europe GM Ryan Gellert and Director of Environmental Initiatives Mihela Hledin Wolfe, The Tempest Two and Nature et Decouvertes. These alongside another panel chaired by Pukka Herbs featuring the NGOs: Surfer's Against Sewage, WeForest, Fossielvrij NL and Protect Our Winters.

Steph Pomphrey, co-founder of TCO/Huck, moderated a panel on the power of authentic storytelling, sharing the stage with five other company members of 1% including: Jari Salo, creative director and also long-time Capita Snowboards collaborator; Ana Rodrigo, marketeer from Biolage (L'Oreal); Madelyn Postar, MD of Leidar Comms; Matt Pycroft (founder of Coldhouse Collective) and Natasha Hurden, head of marketing at Rebel Kitchen.

450 members currently exist in Europe and the target by 2020 is to double this.
